Swing Dancing in the Orchard
Come to PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century for the Friday Swing dance series.
As always at PS21, the emphasis is as much on the music as it is on the
dancing. The music is always live, the styles are variable, and the ambiance is
second to none. If you value world-class live music, and if you enjoy a cabaret
setting and the opportunity to be with old friends and meet new ones, you'll
enjoy this dance. Alan Thomson's Little Big Band or Berkshire Bop Society
(Lincoln Mayorga, Otto Gardner, Sheri Bauer-Mayorga and Sam Zucchini). The dance is held inside an ultra-modern
tent atop a hill in an old orchard in Chatham. The tent (the term doesn't do justice to the wonderfully designed
clamshell-shaped structure) will remain in operation for a few years until the permanent structure is completed. It's
cool on a warm evening, comfortable on a brutally hot evening (lots of fans), and the setting is perfect. Dancing is on
a raised stage in the back of the tent with seating for an audience in front of the stage and for the live music
performers to one side. Season tickets will also be available for those who don't mind saving a few bucks. (Swing Dance
Season Pass $50 general admission / $40 members.) But even so, for the price of admission (discounted $2 for members) you get great live music and fine dancing.
Admission includes
instruction
from 7:30-8:00 "We provide non-alcoholic refreshments and light snacks at no extra
charge. Dancers may bring their own choice of beverages. We also provide plenty
of table seating for those times you just want to sit out and enjoy the music
and the company." For more information
